Louis Wain was a famous artist who drew hundreds, may be thousands of drawings of cats much before the advent of cat-ruled Internet era. In later part of his life, he lost sanity as he possibly became schizophrenic. Even during those times, he consistently drew cats. But there was something different going on. The level of abstraction in his drawings grew with the degree of his insanity. There was this pattern. For example, in the image shown below, there are three cat drawings which Wain drew at different occasion. He drew the first one when he was sane and normal. The second one was drawn when he was beginning to become insane. The final one is from the period when his insanity was at peak. He was still into cats but level of abstraction became more and more deeper.
